Training

The School of Medicine at the University of Papua New Guinea runs post-graduate training in paediatrics and child health. The training consists of a 1-year Diploma of Child Health (DCH), followed by a 3-year Masters of Medicine in Paediatrics. The DCH can be done from any hospital where there is a paediatrician. The training is a mixture of clinical paediatrics and public health, with a focus on the common causes of disease in PNG children, available treatments and holistic care, determinants of health and illness prevention, and evidence-based health care. Trainees do a research project for both their DCH and Masters.
